About Us

The Daventry & District Area Group holds regular meetings in the Seminar Room at Danetre Hospital to inform people about diabetic issues in a friendly manner.  At these  we are able to meet health professionals informally  and offer the opportunity for people with diabetes to share their experiences.

Raising funds both for Diabetes UK nationally  and for local initiatives has always formed an important part of our group's activities. Through street collections, sponsored events and social activities we have contributed to retinal research through an 'adopt a project' scheme and financed educational courses for those with diabetes in our area. Various charitable organisations have  also generously assisted us in raising funds for educational holidays for children with diabetes.

Local and national policy towards the provision of better diabetic services and the need to ensure that best practice is maintained by health service providers in the local area have also been a major concern to us. To this end we have a Group representative at patient consultative meeetings.

It is our hope that, by involving ourselves in all the above,  Daventry and District Area Group can continue to serve the interests  of all of those  in our area with diabetes and to raise awareness both of diabetes itself and of our existence as a "helping hand" to those for whom this condition is an ever-present factor in their lives.

Meetings are free to attend and are open to all.

The group is run by an annually elected Committee consisting of volunteers. Our President is Dr Anne Kilvert , Consultant Physician at Northampton General Hospital   and our   vice-President is Dr Chris Lovatt from a Daventry General Practice.
