                NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016

Our Annual General Meeting, was well attended on Monday 12th December,

We were pleased to learn that both Dr Mano Kenchaiah (Consultant Physician at Northampton General Hospital) and Dr Chris Lovatt (a GP from Guilsborough General Practice) have agreed to accept our invitation to continue as President and vice-President of our group. Their professional advice continues to be most welcome.

Some changes in our Officers have been made following the resignation of Mrs Geraldine Williams due to increasing commitments elsewhere. Dr Paul Geldart has been elected to take over her role as Secretary and Mrs Wendy Randall elected as new Chairman. We are grateful for the work Geraldine has done over the past two years.

Our committee is now fully staffed with seven members.

The past year has been a varied one with the usual high standard of talks and presentations by Health Care professionals, although attendance at some of the meetings has been disappointing. It is sad when those who come to talk to us in their own free time , usually after a full day’s work, are met with such a small audience. Let us hope we can do better next year – especially with the wide range of interesting topics planned.

                               FUND RAISING

Our fund raising this year has been a great success with a substantial donation (£1500) from Staverton Golf Club which has enabled us to adopt-a-project through Diabetes UK.  The project chosen , conducted by Dundee University, is  entitled “Blocking Brain Damage in Diabetes” , which was thought to be beneficial to both Type 1 and Type2 Diabetes. A donation from the mayor’s Charity for 2015/16 also boosted our general fund.

W are also grateful to those members who assisted us in the Tescos’ Big Collection this summer, where donations were split between Diabetes UK and British Heart Foundation – although some  concern was raised that no members of the latter group came to help on the day

In conclusion, we thank you all for your continuing support of our Group  and wish you a Happy and Healthy  New Year.
